Oxford Saïd Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation has been selected to to advise the Bank of England (BoE) and HM Treasury (HMT) on the digital pound.
This initiative encourages academic research, debate and discussion on a range of topics that will support and stimulate the BoE and HMT's work during the design phase of a digital pound, known as the Central Bank Digital Currency. The Academic Advisory Committee, which will assist the BoE and HMT, includes academics from a range of disciplines including monetary policy, finance, competition economics, industrial organisation, behavioural science, law, innovation theory, marketing and business.
Pinar is the Academic Director of the Entrepreneurship Centre and leads the Oxford Future of Finance and Technology Initiative (OFFTI). Established in 2020, OFFTI's research focuses on the disruption caused by technology in the financial sector. It advances the financial sector's understanding of this and related issues by exploring global changes in business, policy and society in collaboration with industry stakeholders. This work directly relates to Pinar's new advisory role for the design phase of the UK's Central Bank Digital Currency.
