Oxford Saïd announces the launch of the Oxford Initiative on Rethinking Performance.
In the last ten years, the role and purpose of companies have been redefined. As concern has grown around systemic challenges, such as climate change and income inequality, so too has interest in whether the corporation has a responsibility to address them. As a result, contemporary, long-term-oriented firms are now faced with a need to understand and show how they create - and destroy - value beyond financials.
Born out of the Mutuality in Business project, The Oxford Initiative on Rethinking Performance (ORP) aims to establish a global discussion platform to address this. It will seek to reshape existing measurement systems to truthfully reflect a company’s performance in relation to its corporate purpose. By shaping thought and practice through new research, teaching and outreach programmes, the initiative will enable sustainable and long-term focussed business behaviour to thrive. Not only will this benefit the economy and investors, but also the planet and society.
