Now in its fifth year, the Global Mayors Challenge is an innovation competition that identifies and accelerates ambitious ideas developed by cities across the world. This year, it will focus on ideas developed in response to Covid-19.
The competition will select 50 finalists that represent the world’s leading urban innovations to emerge from the pandemic. Fifteen prize winners will receive $1 million each and support to implement their ideas.
Professor De Neve will join 12 fellow committee members including former British politician and International Rescue Committee CEO David Miliband and former Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard.
De Neve’s research interests are in behavioural economics, public policy and human wellbeing. He has recently published research on the impact of SDGs on wellbeing and the effect of happiness on the productivity of workers.
De Neve commented: ‘I’m thrilled and honoured to be a part of this challenge. Average life satisfaction has taken a huge hit due to the pandemic and it’s vital that cities across the world think innovatively to tackle a growing wellbeing crisis.’
