Bent Flyvbjerg is the BT Professor and inaugural Chair of Major Programme Management at Saïd Business School
On Thursday, 7 November 2019 the Project Management Institute (PMI) recognised the important work and contribution to the project management profession of Professor Bent Flyvbjerg by presenting him with the 2019 PMI Research Achievement Award.
The PMI Research Achievement Award recognises and honours an individual whose work has significantly advanced the concepts, knowledge and practices of project management through a published body of academic research.
Bent Flyvbjerg is the BT Professor and inaugural Chair of Major Programme Management at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford and a Professorial Fellow of St Anne’s College. He is a world-leading scholar in several academic areas, including research methodology, decision making and project management.
He has advanced the field of project management research in numerous ways: by award-winning articles in Project Management Journal; publishing some of the most cited books and articles in the field; helping Oxford University and others set up research centers, research-based degree programmes and executive education in megaproject management; editing significant special issues in leading journals and by editing a seminal handbook on megaproject management.
PMI stated: ‘Professor Flyvbjerg has pioneered the field of megaproject management and made it an important research field spanning several disciplines engaging sociologists, urban planners, management scholars, economists and engineers. He has truly contributed to making project management more inter-disciplinary.’
Bent Flyvbjerg said, ‘I’m particularly delighted to receive this award, because it is an acknowledgement of not only the academic quality of our research at Oxford Saïd but also of its impact on practice, which we and the University consider particularly important for changing the world for the better.’
The award was presented in London at the Project Management Institute UK Chapter Synergy Conference at The Light Friends House, London.
