Online book club - Capitalism and crises: how to fix them

Join senior business leaders in conversation with Colin Mayer CBE as they discuss his new book, Capitalism and crises: how to fix them.

The Financial Times has highlighted Capitalism and crises: how to fix them by Emeritus Professor Colin Mayer CBE as one to read in 2024.

The Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation is hosting an online book club discussion with three of its distinguished Visiting Fellows: Thorold Barker, Charlotte Cool and Emma Cox. Together with the author, they will examine the core messages of the book and discuss whether capitalism can become the solution - and not the cause - of crises we are facing.

Colin Mayer, Dean of Saïd Business School from 2006 to 2011, says his book unpacks how capitalism can fix multiple crises the world faces, from climate, droughts and floods, to energy, food shortages and pandemics.

He is well known for his work on stakeholder v shareholder capitalism and says: 'We have failed to understand the key institution at the heart of capitalism, namely business. We have allowed it to cause as well as solve problems. Capitalism and crises describes why this has happened and what needs to change to address it.'

This event is an opportunity to discuss the core messages of the book through the lens of senior business leaders.
