Profile
Wenchuan Zhao joined Saïd Business School as a DPhil Candidate in Finance in October 2022. He is also a member of Exeter College and a recipient of the Saïd Business School Foundation Scholarship.
Wenchuan’s research lies on the intersection of corporate finance, labour economics and household finance. He is currently supervised by Professor Martin Schmalz.
Wenchuan holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Tsinghua University and a Master's degree in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, both with distinction.
Research
Wenchuan’s research interests include:
- corporate finance
- household finance
- applied microeconomics
Currently he is working on understanding the spillover effect of high-technology firms on local neighbourhood gentrification, the misuse of fixed effects in panel data regression and the contribution of rising school quality to firm productivity as well as local economy.

Wenchuan assisted in teaching the following courses:
