Profile

Mark Dodgson researches, teaches, and consults on innovation and entrepreneurship.

He is currently Emeritus Professor at the University of Queensland, Australia, and Visiting Professor at Imperial College London, UK. Previous academic roles include being Senior Fellow at the Science Policy Research Unity, Sussex University; Executive Director of the National Graduate School of Management at the Australian National University; and Director of the Technology and Innovation Management Centre at the University of Queensland. He was Professor of Innovation Studies at UQ Business School from 2003-2021. His PhD is from Imperial College London.

Mark has advised numerous companies and governments throughout Europe, Asia, and North and South America and has been on the Board and Advisory Board of two multibillion-dollar companies and five start-ups. He has published 19 books and over 100 articles on innovation, and has researched and taught the subject in over sixty countries.

His latest books are: The Playful Entrepreneur: How to Adapt and Thrive in Uncertain Times, Yale University Press, 2021 (with David Gann) and Demystifying China’s Innovation Machine, Oxford University Press, 2022 (with Marina Zhang and David Gann). His current research interests include innovation and philanthropy and the development of fusion power. He will work with SBS Faculty researching and teaching innovation and entrepreneurship.

He has held visiting academic positions at the University of Pisa, University of Oxford, Advanced Institute of Management Research, Tsinghua University, and Bocconi University. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2019.
