Profile

Kieren Mayers is Senior Director, Environment, Social and Governance at Sony Interactive Entertainment, the company responsible for PlayStation®.

Kieren is an academic practitioner with over 25 years experience working on environment and sustainability solutions within industry. He has held several related management positions within the electronics, entertainment, and waste management sectors (at IBM, Xyratex, Hewlett-Packard, Geodis, and Sony). He is also a founding member of a number of key initiatives, including as an original Steering Committee member of one of the world’s largest recycling schemes, the European Recycling Platform; the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance; and the EU Games Console Self-Regulatory Initiative (where he served as Steering Committee Chair).

He has a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Bradford (UK), and an Engineering Doctorate in Environmental Technology from Brunel University (UK).

Research

Kieren engages actively in research, supervising doctoral candidates, presenting lectures, and publishing research based on empirical investigation and analysis. 

He was formerly a Research Affiliate at Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (US) and is currently Executive in Residence at INSEAD Sustainable Operations Initiative (France), Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey Centre for Environment and Sustainability (UK), and Associate Scholar at the University of Oxford Said Business School (UK).

He is also a member of the Practitoner Doctorate in Sustainability Advisory Board at the University of Surrey.
