Profile

Fiona joined Saïd Business School as candidate for the DPhil in Financial Economics in October 2020.

Her research focuses on the empirical relationship between public firms’ ownership structures and their productivity outcomes. She is supervised jointly by Martin Schmalz (Saïd Business School) and Stephen Bond (Economics Department).

Prior to joining the doctoral program, Fiona completed the Bachelor in International Economics and Finance (BIEF) at Bocconi University, and the Master of Philosophy in Economics at the University of Oxford, both with Distinction.

Her doctoral research is funded by the Saïd Business School Foundation. During her undergraduate and graduate studies Fiona was a member of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes.

Research

Fiona’s research interests include:

  • Empirical Corporate Finance and Governance
  • Applied Microeconomics (mark-up and productivity drivers)

Her work currently focuses on establishing a novel and more complete account of ownership structures in public US corporations. With a joint view on insider, blockholder and institutional shareholdings, she investigates how ownership structures are related to the heterogeneous productivity outcomes across firms and markets.

Teaching

Fiona has tutored the following courses:

  • Undergraduate Finance, elective for BA Hons in Economics and Management and BA Hons in Politics, Philosophy and Economics (2020/21, 2021/22)
  • First Principles of Financial Economics, core module for the Master in Law & Finance (2022/23)
