Climate Change Challenge

During the world's hottest summer ever recorded, Burjeel Holdings and Saïd Business School launched the Climate Change Challenge for students and teachers.

After many months of hard work by high school students and teachers we were delighted to announce the winners at a special ceremony on 2 December at COP28, the United Nations Climate Conference in Dubai.

Why are we doing this?

The next generation will inherit a planet suffering from the extreme effects of climate change, in ways we do not yet understand. We do know that no country, continent or community will be left untouched. From the devastation wrought by drought and flood, threatening the supply of food and water, to the ever-rising number of climate change refugees, tomorrow’s leaders will have significant climate change challenges to contend with.

Through this global competition, together with Burjeel Holdings, a leading healthcare provider committed to protecting life, we wanted to work with tomorrow’s leaders, entrepreneurs and change makers, to help them tackle humanity's greatest challenge through education, innovation and bold thinking.

At a time when the world is dealing with a climate crisis, initiatives like these are the beacons of hope for a better future.

From Dubai to Oxford

A panel of international judges with expertise in business, healthcare and climate change solutions, was carefully curated. The judges scored all entries and then chose our student team finalists and our teacher finalists.

The finalists attended an award ceremony at COP28 in Dubai, in December where the winners were announced. The succesful teams will attend a tailored climate change programme next summer, here at Oxford Saïd, taught by our world renowned academics. Finalists and winners did not have to pay to attend COP28 and all expenses will also be be covered by Burjeel Holdings and Oxford Saïd for the programme in Oxford.
