How the Laidlaw Scholarship for the Oxford MBA is enabling me to become a better leader

My name is Laís, I am Brazilian, of Japanese descent, and a social entrepreneur.

I founded a chapter of the global movement Litre of Light, which takes solar lighting to communities without adequate access to electricity. I have been leading this organization in Brazil for the last seven years, particularly in the Amazon rainforest.

I came to the Oxford MBA because I wanted to reflect and understand how I could generate more impact and be a better leader. Saïd Business School was the obvious choice because I wanted to be in a place that would allow me to

  1. have a systemic view
  2. understand what was happening in the intersection of business and impact at a global level
  3. meet the people who are already making all of this happen.

I have to say that, for the short time that I have been here, it has been a lot more than I expected, and this dream was only possible because of the Laidlaw Scholarship. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Laidlaw Foundation and the Oxford Saïd team for allowing me to be here.

Finally, I would like to say that all of this only makes me want even more to develop myself and give back.
