The Application: Executive Cheerleader

'Know your superpowers, know your strengths, things that come easily to you don't come easily to others.'

The Application with Lucy Mullins

'Most things can be cured with a good night's sleep, a large bottle of water and some exercise', says Lucy Mullins, reflecting her positivity and her energy. From a sports science background her journey has taken her to the heart of two quite different businesses. She’s a co-founder of Stepladder, a fintech platform that helps people save money, and a co-founder also of #Ride the Wave, a training and coaching consultancy.

Lucy talks to Kathy about her successes, her failures and how, as one of the few women on her Oxford Executive MBA course, she feels as though it gave her 50 big brothers.

Lucy is an inspiring female founder who is striving to make a difference and we are so fortunate that she, like so many of our alumni, remain closely involved with our School and our community after they graduate. Lucy is also a member of our oNetwork a community of highly experienced entrepreneurs, business and innovation leaders who share their expertise with Oxford Saïd students and alumni.

Pinar Ozcan, Professor of Entrepreneurship and Innovation and Academic Director of the Entrepreneurship Centre profiled Lucy and her and co-founder, Matthew Addison as part of her Inspiring Female Founders case study series. The aim of profiles with women like Lucy is to inspire and equip future generations of entrepreneurs, particularly women, to tackle pressing challenges in the world through innovation.

The Application is a podcast that tells us about our alumni – their background, what was the driver that caused them to apply for the Oxford Executive MBA (EMBA), what the turning points in their lives are, what their identity is and the tension that often embodies so much of our professional lives.

This year we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the programme and to mark this milestone, Kathy Harvey, Associate Dean, has stepped back behind the microphone with a number of our alumni to reflect on their journeys before, during and after their Executive MBA.
