Saïd Business School's partnership with the Meta Journalism Project is going global

The successful free online programme, delivered with the Meta Journalism Project is, for the first time, helping improve the reach of news organisations across Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia Pacific.

The significant expansion of the programme, previously limited to Europe, comes as digitisation is transforming the media landscape. The Oxford News Marketing Programme aims to assist journalists in getting their content noticed and is targeted at marketing and sales professionals in news organisations, who will collaborate with their editorial colleagues throughout the course.

The programme will run simultaneously in the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America, with a second cohort based in Asia Pacific and India. The first programme launches on 17 May and includes tutorial sessions with Andrew Stephen and Seth Rogin, with applications open until 21st April.

Co-Programme Head Professor Andrew Stephen said it aimed to help news organisations improve the marketing of their journalism so they can be “thriving, successful, and sustainable”.

Prof Stephen, L’Oréal Professor of Marketing & Research Dean, said:

‘We’re delighted to be carrying out further work with the Meta Journalism Project.

He added: ‘The news industry faces unprecedented disruption through digitisation, which has lately even been accelerated due to the pandemic.

‘It's one thing to be experts at telling others' stories – but it is becoming increasingly important for publishers to tell their own stories successfully and effectively.’

Professor Stephen is joined by the well-respected media professional Seth Rogin, Associate Fellow at Saïd Business School, who said:

‘Knowledge of the science of marketing can be a much-needed sustaining force for the objective journalism all people need, regardless of where we live.

‘Just as the business of digital media and news is no longer contained by geographic boundaries, so too must access to marketing education not be limited. I’m very pleased to build on the success and momentum of the Oxford News Marketing Programme by expanding it to serve news publishers around the globe.’

Claudia Gurfinkel, Director of News Partnerships for Meta in Latin America said:

‘After being a success in Europe last year, we are now excited to expand the partnership between Meta Journalism Project and the University of Oxford Saïd Business School to bring the Oxford News Marketing program to publishers in Latin America, Middle East, North Africa and Asia Pacific.

‘We aim to offer their marketing teams a clearer understanding on how to market journalism, supporting them to find the digital marketing tools to tell their own brand story in a sustainable way.’
