The bi-annual TUM Research Excellence Award includes a €10,000 prize.

Daniel Armanios, BT Professor of Major Programme Management, has been presented with the TUM Research Excellence Award by the Peter Pribilla Foundation at the Technical University of Munich for his significant scholarly contributions to the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship and leadership.

Daniel’s research integrates civil engineering and organisational theory, to better understand how organisations work together to build, manage, and maintain infrastructure amidst complexity. He is interested in how such coordination impacts entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable development.

Finalists are reviewed by a panel of judges and assessed on specific criteria such as contribution to research and practice, originality, talent and craftsmanship. The jury evaluated Daniel’s work highly across all criteria, with comments such as ‘excellent craftmanship’ and ‘impressive publication quality and promising pipeline.’

On receiving the award at the Babson College Entrepreneurship Research Conference in Texas, Daniel said: ‘I am extremely humbled to receive this prize. I see this as a testament to how our work in the major programmes area is informing new perspectives on how the systems built within and around these programmes support novel innovation and entrepreneurial activity.’

Daniel has published in some of the world’s leading business journals - including Organization Science and the Strategic Management Journal - and some of the world’s leading scientific journals, including Nature Energy, Nature Sustainability, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. His latest paper – published in Organization Science – explores the idea that physical bridges may help link people, ideas, resources and knowledge together, which may in turn increase high-tech entrepreneurship.

We extend our congratulations to Daniel and look forward to engaging with his future research
