Invest Africa business mentoring programme

A business mentoring programme with Invest Africa was created to support our African Oxford MBA students as they develop into future business leaders

In partnership with the Oxford Africa Business Alliance

The Invest Africa Business Mentoring Programme with Oxford Saïd was developed out of the desire to make use of the extensive business expertise that lies within the Invest Africa membership and network, coupled with the aspiration to support business students who want to work in the African market. Part of Invest Africa’s vision is to be a central and influential driver in Africa’s economic growth, and this mentoring programme will help support some of Africa’s future business leaders.

This programme is open to our Oxford MBA students who form part of the Oxford Africa Business Alliance and will be used to help mentees develop their careers or business paths through personal and professional development.

How the programme works

The mentoring programme takes place over the duration of the one-year MBA period. It is a voluntary programme that matches an Invest Africa member (the mentor, who will be an experienced businessperson), with a Saïd Business School student who is of African-origin.

Mentors and mentees will apply for the programme and go through a selection process, co-ordinated by Invest Africa and Saïd Business school. Mentors and mentees will be matched based on the mentee’s needs, sectors that the mentor works in and that are of interest to the mentee and parts of Africa that are of interest to the mentee.

Digital mentoring training will be offered to the mentor and mentee and support will be offered throughout the year by an Invest Africa mentoring panel. The mentor and mentee will commit to a minimum of 2 hours per month, for each month of their year-long mentoring relationship.

Oxford Africa Business Alliance

Oxford Africa Business Alliance

The Alliance was created to formalise and strengthen our Africa initiative and to stimulate action in addition to generating ideas. Our students and alumni join the Africa Alliance as members and is jointly led by a School and student leadership committee. The Alliance focuses on aspects relating to doing business in Africa, corporate engagement, and supporting the School's focus on Africa. It also brings together African thought-leaders to talk on the opportunities on the continent; and connects you with other African related networks and groups.

Members engage in and support the many African-related activities throughout the year and continue to support our vision as alumni. As members, students can identify activities they would like to support and work to generate new ideas that contribute to the schedule; but most importantly share their thoughts, demonstrate their passion for Africa and support their peers.
