Profile

Hazel was previously Director of Strategy at the Government Digital Service and brings over 20 years’ experience of working closely with ministers, permanent secretaries, 10 Downing Street and non-executive boards in policy, operational and corporate civil service roles. She is a passionate advocate for bringing together the latest academic insight with practitioner experience.

Hazel operates a portfolio of advisory and executive coaching work, via her own company (Hazel Bees Consulting Limited), as an Associate with Edgecumbe Consulting Group and previously for Deloitte. She is an associate adviser and reviewer of the highest risk Government major projects for the Infrastructure and Projects Authority (IPA) and has led two in-depth Reviews of the remit and effectiveness of Arms’-Length Bodies published on GOV.UK. ​She is a Non-Executive Director on the Board of Building Digital UK and chairs the Audit and Risk Committee, overseeing a UK taxpayer investment of up to £5bn in full fibre gigabit and broader telecommunications infrastructure projects.

In addition to being an alumna of the Major Project Leadership Academy, Hazel graduated from the London School of Economics' Executive Master of Public Policy. She holds a post-graduate Executive Coaching Certificate from Henley Business School and is accredited with the International Coaching Federation.

Teaching

Current teaching and coaching roles at Oxford Saïd include:

  • lead facilitator and practitioner case study on the Major Projects Leadership Academy
  • co-designer and faculty on the related induction course for government Senior Responsible Owners (SRO Fundamentals)
  • teaching, design and coaching team for several bespoke Oxford client programmes in the UK and for international governments, primarily on transformation, digital and major project leadership.
