Grade 2: £22,631-£22,681+20% uplift for shift allowance= £27,157-£27,217 per annum

Full time, 40 hours per week, fixed term contract 2 years

We are seeking two skilled and motivated chef de parties to join our small and friendly catering team at Egrove Park in Kennington, Oxford. The catering department services up to 250 senior executives, academics, business guests, staff and students per day, providing breakfast, lunch and evening meals as well as catering for conferences and other events.

Reporting directly to the Head Chef, you will play a key role in assisting the senior chefs in the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen to ensure that the school's reputation for food quality is maintained at all times.

You will be responsible for preparation, cooking, presentation and serving of breakfast, lunch, dinner and buffets, ensuring that all food is prepared to the required food service deadlines. As a chef de partie, you will also be knowledgeable in all kitchen sections, including larder, pastry and sauce, and will assist in all kitchen duties including stock management, stock control, cleaning down and food safety controls. Flexibility in working hours, including some weekend and evening work, will be required to meet the needs of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation, cooking, presentation and serving of breakfast, lunch, dinner, and buffets
  • Ensuring all food is prepared to the required food service deadlines
  • Maintaining the standards of food preparation, taste and customer service set by the Head Chef
  • Being knowledgeable in all kitchen sections, including larder, pastry and sauce
  • Assisting in all kitchen duties, including receiving deliveries, stock management, stock control, cleaning down and food safety controls
  • Maintaining high personal standards in all aspects of kitchen hygiene and food safety
  • Serving meals from the pass or buffet service and communicating and engaging appropriately with clients and front of house staff
  • Demonstrating a willing and helpful attitude towards internal and external stakeholders

Selection criteria:

  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm about food, self-motivation and reliability
  • NVQ Level 2 and 3 in professional cookery or equivalent
  • Previous catering experience within a similar, high-quality establishment
  • Understanding of the need for excellent customer service at all times
  • Flexible approach to working hours, with weekend and evening availability
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional friendly approach
  • Good management and organizational skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines
  • Basic IT literacy, working with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Food Hygiene Certificate
  • Good working knowledge of dietary requirements and current legislation
